Martin I, after being humiliated by a few years, has continued to be glorified for many centuries. It has done what St. Paul said: "After a short experience in this land, we expect a huge benefit in heavenly glory."
Blessed are you when they persecute you because of me. Glad: for great is your reward . (Jesus Christ).

San Martin was the last pope martyred. More than 40 popes have been martyred.
was born in Todi, Italy, and distinguished among the priests of Rome for his holiness and wisdom. He became pope
year 649 and shortly thereafter called a council or meeting of all bishops to condemn the heresy of saying that Jesus Christ had no human will, but only divine (Monothelite called these heretics).
As the emperor of Constantinople Monothelite Constans II was a heretic, a military commander sent a battalion to kill the pontiff. But he was going to murder, was blinded at the time he was going to kill, and the head was returned unharmed.

In Constantinople he was exposed to the public as a criminal, so that people would laugh at him. But what I did was make many admire the virtue of this holy man who suffered everything with admirable courage. A court sentenced him without allowing heretics to say even one word in his defense. I had three months in jail suffering intended to death row, and then released from jail by a request made by the Archbishop Patriarch of Constantinople shortly before his death, but sent him into exile.
Martin was writing in his letters what was happening in those long martyrdom. In one of those letters tells how he was taken without the slightest sign of consideration or respect to the Crimea (in southern Russia near the Black Sea) where he was for months abandoned by all, suffering hunger and downs, but enriched for the sky in the daily offering of their sufferings to God.
His sufferings were so great that when someone threatened that they would kill him, said: "Whatever they give me death, surely will not be more cruel than this life that are making me go" . They threatened to leave his body exposed to be devoured crows and said "As a mi cuerpo, Dios se encargará de cuidarlo.

¿Qué have no money? But it would not have even a few pounds of food to send? Or is that fear of the enemies of the Church makes them forget the obligation that each one has to feed the hungry? But nevertheless, I still pray to God to keep firm in faith to all who belong to the Church. "
died over conditions and lack of need for health or old age, in 656 . In Constantinople, where he had been so humiliated, it was declared a saint and began to honor him as a martyr of religion. And in the Church of Rome has been honored by the number of the martyrs.
Martin I: after be humiliated for some years, has remained glorified for many centuries. It has done what St. Paul said: "After a short experience in this land, we expect a huge benefit in heavenly glory."
Blessed are you when they persecute you because of me. Glad: for great is your reward. (Jesus Christ).
Pray

Lord God Almighty, you who bestowed to St. Martin, Pope and martyr, the grace to not succumb to threats and torture, grant us the strength that is needed for us address the struggles and adversities of life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son.
